The NNPC-SNEPCo Postgraduate Scholarship funds UK-based postgraduate study for Nigerian oil and gas talent, and unlike some other corporate schemes in this space, it ran on a clear, published schedule for the 2026 intake rather than going quiet.
Current status:
- The 2026 cycle partnered with two UK universities, the University of Aberdeen and Newcastle University, funding one-year MSc study starting September 2026
- Applications closed 8 June 2026, so this specific window is now shut, but the scheme runs annually and a comparable cycle should open again for the following intake
- You must secure admission to an eligible course first; the scholarship application only becomes available after the university makes you a formal offer, so the two steps happen in sequence, not in parallel
Eligibility is tightly defined: applicants must be aged 21 to 28 by 30 September of the intake year, hold or expect a degree equivalent to UK upper second-class honours, have completed NYSC, score at least 6.5 in IELTS, and hold a Nigerian international passport valid well beyond the intake date. Funding covers tuition, one economy return flight, and a living contribution set at the Association of Commonwealth Universities’ published rates, not a blank cheque for every cost, and neither SNEPCo nor NNPC is obliged to offer employment afterward, nor are scholars bonded to the company once the degree is finished.
